Ordinances updated, public hearing on Dec. 12 agenda
Sorry Clarence. You’re not welcome in Scranton.
The Scranton city council has been revamping city ordinances. At its Nov. 14 meeting, the council discussed an urban chicken ordinance which would have allowed residents who live south of the railroad tracks in Scranton to raise poultry.
The vote failed on a 3-2 vote. Julie McAleer and Cole Gustoff were in favor but Ethel Subbert, Marilyn Jacobsen and newly elected Ashley Squibb were opposed.
A public hearing on the entire Code of Ordinances has been scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 6 pm. A copy of the revised ordinances is available for review at city hall during regular business hours.
Another discussion was held on Gazebo Park regarding water availability and trees. The council voted unanimously to remove the large pine tree at the park.
Ken Paxton gave an update on the Vision 20/20 project along with his monthly status report on economic development. Monthly reports were given on the public library, parks and rec, sesquicentennial and Community Center.
Chad Kirk updated the council on public works, talking about lead testing, generator fuel, Christmas lights, equipment maintenance and snow fence.
The council also discussed the allocation of Grow Greene County gaming funds and a letter from the Department of Natural Resources regarding an operation report.
The next regular meeting of the council is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 12. ~The Scranton Journal
